Gospel- Facts and Faith, Not Our Feelings...

4/26/2019

While looking up some info and vids for the site, I came across an article talking about feelings and how they do not determine what is true. This is especially relevant in our culture, but even more so among those who claim to be Christians.

The article spoke of a candidate currently running for President who is openly gay and unashamedly says God made him that way. I'm not going to get into the ends and outs of whether or not someone is actually born with the desire of same sex attraction, than just to say, we are all born with both sexual and non sexual desires that can be used for both good and bad.

My heterosexual desire for the opposite sex does not give me the freedom to have relations with any woman I want.  It is my duty to only have relations with my spouse, otherwise, it is adultery. Some people are prone to anger, or prone to be lazy or workaholics. The fact that some of these things can be used to the good (a good worker), doesn't mean spending all of your time working and not being involved in family and church affairs is not sin.

Feelings drive most of us to sin, because feelings is what we usually use to justify our sin.  The fact that this candidate is justifying his homosexual life because he feels God is okaying his sin and made him that way, doesn't change the fact that God explicitly says it is sin. Wives or husbands can feel like they can justify leaving their spouse because they "feel" like they don't love them anymore, but that feeling doesn't change one iota of God's word on the subject.

Many people "feel" good about a whole lot of things and often justify them even in religious circles, but feelings if not attached to the perfect Word of God, mean nothing and are a very dangerous thing to mess around with.

The Bible lays out the facts and if our feeling don't line up with them, its not God's problem, but our own.  Faith that we can trust Him and His Word, is the power to overcome our own feelings. The gospel is all the motivation we need. Doesn't mean its easy, doesn't mean we won't cave to feelings more than we'd like, but its the power of God to keep us focused on what He did to pay for our sins.
